The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and sentenced more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under confinement pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a call for a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the arrest, the magistrate said data from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the tracking monitor to ensure success in his getaway".

This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a legislator, called for a meeting of his followers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on Friday: Will you battle for your homeland, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your sofa? I invite you to fight with us."

He said the demonstration would be so supporters could offer prayers for his health and for the return of democracy in our country."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the magistrate's determination was the possibility of Bolsonaro's transfer to embassies near the dwelling, considering that the inquiries revealed a background of arranging to ask for protection through a diplomatic representation", a statement said.

The judicial paperwork underscores that the American diplomatic mission in the national capital, Brasilia, is located around 8 miles from the former president's residence.

International Reactions

The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow populist conservative American leader Trump, leading him to impose a fifty percent tax on goods coming from Brazil.

The former president is being detained in a federal law enforcement building in Brazil's capital city and will undergo a detention review on the following day.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on last Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the High Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under domestic detention, with tracking devices.

They also asked that he be permitted to exit his dwelling for medical care, saying he demanded frequent medical attention for respiratory ailments and other health problems.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was found guilty of heading a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the national vote to his left-wing rival, President Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he was aware of a plot which involved plans to assassinate the current president and his vice-presidential running mate, Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Justice Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been managing the former president's case.

The scheme was stopped because it failed to get the support of the army and air force commanders. His successor was sworn in without incident on the first day of 2023.

But a following week, on 8 January, numerous his followers stormed and vandalised official structures in the capital, the capital city.

The security forces took action and around fifteen hundred individuals were detained.

The justices found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by the former president whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to step in, restore order and return him to office.

At the time, his attorneys called the decades-long sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.

The former president called the trial a "witch hunt and said it was designed to prevent him running in the 2026 presidential election.
